Wi‑Fi Optimisation Tips for Offices
Poor Wi‑Fi can cripple productivity and frustrate employees. Improve your wireless network with these steps:
Position access points correctly
Place APs centrally and elevated, away from walls, cabinets or metal objects that interfere with signals.
Reduce interference
Use the 5 GHz band (or Wi‑Fi 6’s 6 GHz band) to avoid crowded 2.4 GHz channels. Manually set channels to minimise overlap with neighbours.
Upgrade your hardware
Newer Wi‑Fi standards like 802.11ac or 802.11ax (Wi‑Fi 6) provide better performance and capacity for dense environments.
Segment your network
Separate guest Wi‑Fi from internal systems using VLANs or dedicated SSIDs. This improves security and prevents bandwidth hogging.
Secure your Wi‑Fi
Use WPA3 (or at least WPA2‑AES) encryption, change default router passwords and disable WPS.
Update firmware & manage bandwidth
Update router firmware regularly to patch vulnerabilities. Implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritise critical applications like VoIP.
If your office spans multiple floors or has dense obstacles, consider a professional site survey and a managed Wi‑Fi solution.
